Formaggio

If you're in the mood for good wine, excellent food, and great music, Formaggio is the perfect spot! In the two occasions that I visited Formaggio I was impressed with the entire experience. Service is excellent, and the we are never disappointed with the wine suggestions. On this occasion, my boyfriend took me out for a toast and a bite to eat in celebration of my last day of being a "student."

He ordered the Pizza Margherita, which was a thin crust pizza topped with tomato, basil, and mozerrella. The crust was nice and crisp and the classic toppings were simple, yet delightful!

I had the Vegetable Panini Sandwich, which was a foccacia bread filled with grilled eggplant, bell peppers, and zucchini topped off with a light pesto mayonnaise. The bread was crispy on the outside added texture to the tender grilled vegetables.

The dessert was delicious! It was an apple dessert served warm, flambe style, with cold vanilla ice cream. The sauce that accompanied the apples had a nice caramel flavor, which was not overly sweet, as it had a slight tang of lemon. I had a hard time deciding which dessert to choose (they all sounded excellent), but the waiter suggested this one because it was his favorite, and it sure was a great choice!

Dishes at Formaggio are perfect for sharing (tapa style), but also fine for entrees. There is an assortment that ranges from salads and pizza, to braised beef and cheese platters. Prices are reasonable, and service is top-notch! Our server was obviously busy, but he never let our wine (or water) glasses go empty, and once our dishes were done, he cleared them immediately so that our small table could be free of clutter and comfortable for mingling. The owners of Formaggio just recently opened a new location in Kailua called Formaggio Grill, and I expect that it is just as great!
